Our
History

Amazon Publishing was founded in 2009 and since day one, our goal has been to make authors happy, connect writers with a global audience, and innovate on behalf of authors and readers.

In our first two years, we launched five imprints, including Montlake, Thomas & Mercer, and 47North, as well as our world literature imprint, Amazon Crossing. In 2014, Little A author Shawn Vestal won the PEN/Bingham Prize for debut fiction for Godforsaken Idaho. In 2015, Two Lions author Anna Kang and illustrator Christopher Weyant won the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award for You Are (Not) Small, and Amazon Crossing was named the largest publisher of translated fiction in the United States. Little A author Viet Dinh was recognized as a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award for After Disasters in 2017. A year later, 47North author Meg Elison’s The Book of Etta was a finalist for the Philip K. Dick Award. In 2021, Montlake author Melinda Leigh became our first author to reach more than 10 million readers, and we’ve helped over eighty authors (and counting) reach more than one million readers.
